14-Year-Old Benedict Adjei Makes History As The Youngest Referee To Officiate In Ashanti Region

Benedict Adjei, A form one student at Asanteman Senior High School has defied the odds to become the youngest referee to officiate a match in the Ashanti region.

This happened during the Ashanti regional inter schools competition where he held the finals between SIMMS Senior High School and OKESS on his shoulders at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The intense match ended 2-2 after extra time, with OKESS triumphing on penalties to claim the championship.

A First-year business student, Agyei is a standout product of the Ghana Football Association’s ‘Catch Them Young Referee Project.’

This initiative aims to identify and develop young talents passionate about pursuing professional refereeing.

His exceptional performance in the high-stakes final has drawn widespread praise for his composure, fairness, and professionalism, showcasing the success of the GFA’s innovative program.
