EPL: English FA declines action against defender Marc Guehi over rainbow armband

The Football Association (FA) has opted not to take formal action against Crystal Palace’s captain Marc Guehi after the defender displayed a religious message on his kit for the second time.

Social media have been heated the past few days regards to sanctions that may hit Marc Guehi after some “rainbow” fans chastised the action portrayed the captain after his inscription on the armband which reads “I Love Jesus”.

Despite the warning, Guehi displayed another message, “Jesus loves you,” on his armband during Tuesday’s Premier League win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The rainbow armbands are part of the Premier League’s LGBTQ+ inclusion campaign in partnership with the charity Stonewall. While team captains are encouraged to wear them, participation is not mandatory.

According to FA guidelines, any clothing or equipment featuring religious messages is prohibited. Although Guehi’s actions breached these rules, the FA has reiterated its stance to Crystal Palace but will not impose sanctions.

In an interview, He also proclaimed “God First” in all he does.
